Mark Neal is a multi instrumentalist with extensive experience playing in many different styles of music from acoustic Scottish folk to jazz, funk and rock.

Having had music lessons from around the age of 6, in piano, violin, flute and drums while a school, mark gained a strong love for many types of music and took up guitar at around the age of 16 as an alternative to the more classical music which was taught in lessons.

Mark quickly took to the guitar and after moving to Edinburgh to study a physics degree, he got involved with the lively music scene and started to play in various bands including the ceilidh band Teannaich as a guitarist but also sometimes filling in on drums and bass and occasionally taking on calling duties (teaching the dances).

Since then Mark has continued to play in many bands including the traditional folk band Heeliegoleerie who where winners of the 2005 Danny Kyle open stage at Celtic Connections festival. He has also appeared on numerous CDs. Since 2003 when he completed a PhD in Acoustics Mark now works full time as a musician, music teacher and sound engineer.
